Education Mission Statement
To teach effectively, the educator must transfer his/her excitement and enthusiasm, not just knowledge, to his/her students. This transfer must take place in a cooperative learning environment which encourages critical thinking and is supportive of diverse learning styles. Within this context, students can develop self-confidence, a willingness to make mistakes, and develop new and broader dimensions of responsibility and commitment.
As educators on Sprout Creek Farm, we aim to:
- teach both children and adults to love our fragile earth, to understand our connectedness to it, and thus to develop in them a passion for protecting its integrity;
- use the farm setting to teach new ways of caring for animals, of working the land, and of living a simpler and more environmentally integrated way of life;
- remain dynamic by introducing new programs and updating existing programs to meet the needs of new and returning students;
- learn by action how to better appreciate the earth's inherent beauty and intelligence, become interested in problems of a global community, and explore new routes by which social and personal changes can occur.
